Long-lived, slow-growing half-hardy perennial forming a tuft of narrow, lanceolate, silvery-grey-looking leaves covered in glands which secrete mucilage. Flwrs yellow, sets seed quite readily. Resents mechanical disturbance, and vulnerable to stem rot. Lime tolerant. Treat as a cactus.
