The CPS has exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show since 1979.From those early days when the 'wow' factor grabbed the headlines, we have staged an exhibit every year, sometimes with mixed success. The early exhibits were mainly large numbers of plants stuffed in tightly and the pots hidden with peat. After the show everything came back covered in peat dust, the sundews suffering the most. Now we use moss obtained from a commercial source that displays plants to their best advantage without the mess. One of our early shows is remembered as 'the carnivorous chess board' in 1981. The stand was covered with metre wide strips of black and white material and the plant pots similarly covered to provide a contrast. The judges were not convinced, but it showed our desire to provide something different and achieve one of our main aims, that of education. Since that time, we have won 4 Gold Medals plus many Silver Gilt, Silver & Bronze, but we have maintained a high standard of at least silver for over 15 years. Not bad for a bunch of amateurs!
2003 will be our 25th Chelsea Flower Show and we intend to make it one of the best ever. We have already had our request for space accepted and are actively planning all the details for plants, travel, tickets, and structures etc. It's still a long way off, but the planning started at last year's show.
This is our 2000 award from the RHS at Chelsea
