How To Use Gibberellic Acid - GA3 |
GA3 Application Guide GA3 is used to help stimulate the germination of difficult seeds. In practical use, a solution of 100-250 parts per million (ppm) is usually sufficient. At this strength, the quantity supplied will make 500ml. A stronger solution is required for seeds of Byblis gigantea and Roridula dentate. The quantity supplied should be made up to 200ml. In order to break the dormancy of Sarracenia species and tuberous Drosera etc., soak the seeds in GA3 for 24 hours before potting up. Seeds should be wrapped in kitchen paper before soaking, to avoid them floating. GA3 should be mixed as and when it is required. GA3 is unstable in solution and will lose efficacy in 2 to 4 weeks, even if refrigerated. Always store GA3 in a fridge to retain potency - at room temperature it will degrade in a few weeks. Although GA3 is not listed as a poison, the following precautions should be observed. Should GA3 get into the eye, flush with water. Avoid skin contact if possible but wash away any contact with soap and water. Avoid ingestion of GA3. Gibberellic Acid (GA3) is available from The Seedbank Manager. Please complete this form, print it and then send it, together with £1.50 and a SAE to Sheila Little - Seed Bank Manager (address is on the form).
