The Carnivorous Plant Society has a quarterly newsletter called "CPS News" this is published in March, June, September and December. The Newsletter is the regular voice of the Society and keeps the Membership up to date on the various society events and news, providing members a forum to air their views and also exchange plants with others.
The CPS News is now published in two formats:
Regular members receive a printed version of the newsltter on A4 paper, through the post. E-members receive the computer based PDF format. This is an higher quality newsletter with colour photos and often extras. The PDF file can be emailed or downloaded from the members area of the web site. There is a "Junior" PDF format for our younger members. Please ask about becoming an E-member when joining or rejoining the society. Regular articles include: Letters Page: The newsletter is there for the Membership and the letters page allows members to air their views, ask for advice or pass on growing tips. Committee News: Details of changes to the Committee, notes from the Annual General Meeting and other committee business. Seed Bank: The seed bank is available to all members who are entitled to request their annual allocation of seed. The list of seed available is published in the newsletter. Open Days: The event diary is published each issue, along with travel directions to the various open days and meetings. The newsletter also contains details from the events themselves in the form of visitor's reports. Show Reports: The Society displays at the Chelsea Flower Show and Gardeners World Live at the NEC. Reports of these are published in the newsletter. Plant Search: The readership can exchange plants, books or anything else related to carnivorous plants in this section. This is the perfect place for members to build collections and pass on their excess plants to other members. Cultivation Techniques: All members are invited to write articles for the magazine. Many use the opportunity to write about their favourite plants and describe how they grow or propagate them. A plea for articles The newsletter is only as good as the submissions provided by the Society Membership. All articles, artwork and photos are welcomed and will be considered for inclusion in subsequent issues. No matter how big or small. The following bullets are just suggestions: Conservation One of the aims of the Society is conservation. Articles on this topic could cover anything from peat substitutes to protecting the natural habitat of carnivorous plants. Growing Tips These can be as basic or advanced as you like, our membership covers a broad spectrum of experience. Basically, "How do you grow CPs?"- soil mix - light - temperature etc. More articles on the more unusual or rarer carnivorous plants would be appreciated. My Favourite Plant A picture and article on your favourite plant and how it is grown
Electronic submission is preferred, sent to Newsletter Editor, but postal submissions will also be accepted, details in the Newsletter. The newsletter is published quarterly and copy deadlines for each issue are as follows: Mid February for the March issue. Mid May for the June issue. Mid August for the September issue. Mid November for the December issue.
Any submissions that have missed the copy deadline will be included in the next available issue.
