Page 1 of 2 The Society's meetings and open days are perhaps the most enjoyable and rewarding feature of the CPS. The opportunity to socialise with other growers, exchange information and growing techniques, buy plants (usually at bargain prices) or swap them is crucial to the Society's well being. If you haven't attended one before, I urge you to come along and find out what you are missing. All members are welcome to attend meetings and new members are made most welcome! Light refreshments are provided at all the Societies meetings. The CPS organises two meetings each year, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the End of Season Meeting. In addition to the important Society business that is conducted, there are illustrated talks, plant sales and auctions in aid of the CPS Conservation Fund. Several meetings are organised at the homes of members, 'Open Days', throughout the summer. In addition to viewing their collections, most hosts have a good range of their spare plants for sale/swap and other members are encouraged to bring along plants to sell/swap. Very few members come home from Open Days empty-handed! Paul McKeown's Open Day in August is a very popular meeting at which members are invited to bring along their best plants to compete for the Kathleen Pottinger Memorial Trophy there is also a plant auction in aid of the CPS Conservation Fund. If you think that you would like to host an Open Day next year, please feel free to contact me by email. Wouldn't it be great if there were a few more meetings scattered around the country? I am sure there are quite a few members in Scotland, Wales and Ireland that never get to our meetings - any volunteers? You don't need a huge collection to host a meeting, you just have to be prepared to open your garden and greenhouse to members and provide refreshments (The Society can help with the cost of this). How about holding a joint meeting with someone that lives near by? 2011 - OPEN DAYS, MEETINGS AND EVENTS | | Date | Time | Open Day/Event | Location | 9 April | 1pm to 5pm | AGM | East Horesley Village Hall | 29/30 May | 10 - 4pm | Paul Gardner | Madley, Herefordshire | 4 June | Noon onwards | Derek Clavell-Bate | Near Launceston, Cornwall | 5 June | 10am-5pm | Dennis Balsdon | Paignton, Devon | 11 June | 12pm - 5pm | Mike King | Telford, Shropshire | 18 June | tbc | RHS Wisely visit | Wisely | 25 June | Noon onwards | Aidan Selwyn | Alton, Hampshire | 2 & 3 July | 10am to 6pm | EEE 2011 | Chester Zoo | 4 July | 12pm - 5pm | Mike King | Telford, Shropshire | 9 July | 2pm to 5pm | Euflora | Waltham Cross, Herts | 16 July | 10am | Kew Gardens visit | London | 23 July | 12pm - 5pm | Ian Salter & Dianne Riddiford | Neath, South Wales | 24 July | 1pm - 5:30pm | Viv Topham | Stowmarket, Suffolk | 31 July | 10am - 4pm | Alistair & Jenny Pierce | Culstock, Devon | 6 August | 2pm - 5pm | Paul McKeown | Watford, Herts | 6 & 7 August | 10am - 5pm | Paul Gardner | Madeley, Herefordshire | 13 August | 12pm - 5pm | Fly Trap Plants | Norwich, Norfolk | 20 August | 12pm - 5pm | Vic Brown | Sandy, Bedfordshire | 24 September | Noon onwards | Aidan Selwyn | Alton, Hampshire | 1 October
